I really hate working out. It isn’t something that I enjoy at all, but if you are like me … here is what I do to (try) and stay fit.
I get a lot of questions to post my diet and fitness routine so it is finally here. I’ve been hesitant to post this, because I’m just lucky to have decent genes and a small waist so it kind of looks like I am thinner than I really am. But here is what I do.
FITNESS:
Since about 2009, I’ve worked out on and off with my personal trainer Nikki Cox. We do one on one pilates sessions at a private gym in Beverly Hills, Oak Fitness. I truly hate working out. If I go to a class, I’ll just skip it.
Working out with a personal trainer is more expensive, but it is the only way I will make myself go. If I skip a $15 class, its not that bad. But to waste the money I spend on a personal trainer, is just dumb.
So anyway, I try to go to her twice a week. We work out on reformers and on a cadillac. For me, I prefer pilates because I get long lean muscles and I just my own body weight as resistance. I hate yoga, I hate spin class, I just really hate working out. This is the only thing somewhat bearable for me and talking with Nikki for an hour is like therapy. She has known me through many jobs, breakups and drama so she just gets me.
I will admit that when I work out with her consistently, my body has never looked better. My legs get leaner, my stomach more toned and my clothes just fit better.
This is when I was going to my trainer 2-3x a week, doing cardio 2x a week and on a strict diet. I was around 105lbs. here. (a little too thin for what I prefer to look like)
If you don’t want to work out one on one with a trainer, look for a pilates reformer class in your area. Or you can work out at home with youtube videos and a mat. I do prefer working on machines than mat pilates.
As far as cardio goes, that is even worse than anything to me. If I make myself go, I will hop on an elliptical for 30 minutes or on a treadmill at an incline. I’ll also go hiking at Runyon Canyon (on the easy side).
Sorry that my fitness tips aren’t that exciting and there isn’t some magic trick.
DIET:
I think food is easier for me than fitness. Now I do love my junk food, cupcakes, desserts, in-n-out and all that but I try not to go overboard.
I go in waves of partying and drinking or not going out and drinking at all. And I don’t eat fast food. Really because there are no fast food options anywhere near me. I also don’t drink coffee, I have a lot of green tea instead.
Breakfast:
Everyday I made a smoothie in the morning in my Nutribullet. It is the best $99 I have ever spent in my life.
Typically it has
- kale
- spinach
- half a banana
- pineapple
- date
- almond butter
- flaxseed oil
- chia seeds
- mint
- ginger
- coconut water or vanilla almond milk
I have this every single morning or at least 5 days a week. This keeps me pretty full until around lunch time. The night before, I put everything in the cup except the liquid. When I wake up in the morning, I add liquid, blend and drink as I get ready for work.
Lunch varies depending where I am. In Los Angeles, it is really easy and convenient to eat healthy. I love salads with mangos or dried cranberries. To clear my skin, I’ve been avoiding dairy so no more cheese in salads for me womp womp
I’ll get a salad at a restaurant or make my own
- spinach or kale or a mix of the two
- mango or dried cranberries
- grilled chicken I buy pre made in strips from Trader Joe’s
- olive oil and balsamic dressing
Now for dinner, I really love and enjoy cooking. Depending what is in my fridge, I make lots of random things. But cooking fish at home is my favorite.
At home I make salmon, black cod, pretty much any yummy fish at Whole Foods I can find. If you see something in the window, you can ask them to marinade it for you or buy the ones that are already pre-marinated. It is pretty much fool proof and will taste delish.
- fish – salmon, black cod, shrimp
- brown rice I get frozen from Trader Joe’s in a green box and eat 1/4 of the bag
- some type of veggie sauteed spinach, crispy kale, brussel sprouts or asparagus
This is just what I generally eat every day, but I do NOT STICK TO THIS EVERY DAY. Don’t think I’m on some crazy diet or work out plan because I’m not, this is just a guideline of what I do.
So to break it down
- Pilates 2x Week
- Hiking or Elliptical
- Limit alcohol
- Don’t eat fast food
- Start your day with a green smoothie
- Never eat dinner too late
- Lots of fish and veggies
It’s pretty basic, but I hope this helps with some questions you’ve had. Leave a comment if there is a recipe you want or more specific questions!
