On snapchat (marianna_hewitt) you may have seen me make or drink Bullet proof coffee. But why on earth would I put coconut oil and ghee (butter) in my coffee? Well theres actually a lot of benefits to this beverage.
WHAT IS BULLET PROOF COFFEE?
Bulletproof Coffee is also referred to as upgraded black coffee that is blended with ghee and and Brain Octane oil, similar to coconut oil. According to Wikipedia, the recipe was created by Dave Asprey and he says that the drink boosts brain performance and weight loss. Sounds good enough to me.
On Women’s Health Mag they say;
“Bulletproof Coffee is a great way to get healthy fats first thing in the morning,” says Kerry Bajaj, a Be Well Health Coach at Eleven Eleven Wellness Center in New York City. Starting the day with healthy fats provides energy, is good for cognitive function, and supports your hormonal system.”
HOW TO MAKE IT
Asprey’s recipe says to use coffee made with “Upgraded” beans. Then add 1–2 tablespoons of ghee and 1–2 tablespoons of “Brain Octane” oil (I use regular coconut oil) and then blend for 20–30 seconds until frothy. Needs to be blended not just stirred into the cup.
- Coffee
- Ghee
- Brain Octane (coconut oil if you can’t get it)
- Stevia *optional
WHEN TO DRINK IT
I have this for breakfast in place of a meal. There is a LOT of fat from the oils so you don’t want to have this and food that would be too many calories. The oils and coffee are meant to jump start your metabolism for the day to aid in weight loss.
Would you try bullet proof coffee? Leave me a comment and let me know!
