We can’t deny that things have certainly changed in the last week or so. Social distancing is now more important than ever, and a lot of people are experiencing the shift for the very first time. So many of us have been instructed to work from home for the time being, and if you’re not used to this, it can get off to a bit of a rough start. I used to work in an office, then when I shifted to being an influencer full time, I’ve worked from home since 2014. I had only started working in an office again recently with Summer Fridays with our team, so when we had to shift to work from home – I knew exactly what to do. I didn’t exactly have the easiest start with this either when I made the shift in 2014, but I eventually found the way to make sure I was my most productive self. If you’re struggling with working from home, these are my tips to make the process smooth and simple. We’re all in this together!
Set a Schedule
Make yourself a weekly schedule and stick to it! This can include your morning workout, meditation, coffee–whatever you want. Keeping tabs on all of your assignments along with breaks for your personal time is key here. Set up a time for you to take a lunch break every day and for some mental breaks! Whatever you do, just don’t get off schedule.

Create a Workspace
First things first, get your “office” space in order. I know that not everyone has a dedicated workspace in their home or even a desk for that matter, so you have to work with what you’ve got. For example, if you know that you’re going to be working from your dining table every day, make the space the most productive as you can. Get rid of any clutter surrounding your space, and keep your laptop, charger, and notepad in place. Treat it like an actual office and make it as comfortable as you can for you and your needs. If you have a lot of equipment to work with, having the space is the most essential part. This is your chance to get creative and own it!
tip: Don’t work from bed or your couch!
This will be the hardest part for some of you. Once you’re up, get showered and dressed as you would for a normal workday. I’m not saying you have to throw on jeans and a blazer but definitely make the effort to get out of your pajamas. As cozy as they may be, not being in normal clothes can make you feel sluggish and mess with your productivity. Make yourself feel physically comfortable and ready to tackle the day. (I’ll get more into some cozy clothes you can wear to work from home later this week!)
I can’t stress this enough. Health professionals say that we should be staying extra hydrated during this time anyway, but sipping on some h2O will boost your productivity. Feeling dehydrated leads to feeling fatigued and that’s the last thing you need while tackling your work. Keep a refillable bottle at your side to drink throughout the day–it doesn’t get easier than that!
As I mentioned before, slot out some time for you to take breaks. Emotions are high right now and it’ll be easy to become overwhelmed, especially with work. Keep your mind and body at peace by taking a five-minute break and stepping away from your work. Having your eyes glues to a computer screen all day isn’t good for you anyway, so don’t be so hard on yourself.
Stay in Touch
One of the most important things to keep in mind when working remotely is keeping open communication with your team. You’re all going through this time together and need to be there for each other more than ever. If you need extra help with a project, reach out! The last thing you want to do is leave the impression that you’re not actually working while at home, so stay in touch with your supervisor to keep things streamlined.
