Over the last few years, sponsored posts on social media have become more common than not. Like flipping pages in a magazine, every few pages you pass will be an ad. But without those ads, that often seamlessly go with the pages of the book, the magazine would not be able to survive and bring you all the other beautiful content seen on the other pages of the magazine. That’s how I like to think of my blog and social platforms.
For me #sponsored or #ad is a hashtag that I post with no shame. I would rather use the hashtag and let you know that the corresponding post was sponsored than to deceive my audience, but here and there it comes with a little concern from my readers or followers. For the most part, I have such amazing, loyal, awesome readers that if anything you are so supportive of me and the brands I get to work with, but for the few readers that may be questioning it … that’s why I wanted to write this open letter to you to chat more about this topic.
By now I’m sure you know that bloggers, youtubers and influencers make a majority of their income on sponsored posts through blog, social media and youtube placement. Unless said influencer has a job outside of this, doing sponsored content and branded collaborations are our main source of income. This is how we make a living. But don’t think that just because its #sponsored, that it isn’t sincere, genuine or well thought out. For me personally – it is even more curated than our other content to ensure that the posts never seem to commercial.
At this point in my career I am so fortunate to only work with the brands that I know and love. That I genuinely really like and that I would be proud to share with you wether it be sponsored or not and feel 100% confident that if you bought it you would hopefully share the same opinions as me. I turn down so many sponsored posts and brand collaborations almost everyday because I know in my heart they aren’t a good fit for my audience or my readers and that if I posted that product or that thing – that it wouldn’t be genuine. And I only take on the brands that I feel connect with my YOU!
Whenever a brand comes to me to collaborate on the post, it not only goes through myself but a team of people to decide if this is a good fit for me, my brand and my readers. If we decide collectively that its a good fit – I’ll go on to try the product or see the item or try it out. If I love it and feel like YOU my readers would love it too, then we come up with a creative way to share the product to you so that it is a true and genuine story to myself. So that even though it is sponsored you know from me that it is honest. From my personal story with the item, to the beautiful photography and videos – I try my hardest to go above and beyond to create beautiful content for you that you hopefully enjoy reading and seeing .. and it turn gives me the ability to keep creating new and fresh content everyday for you, sponsored or not!
I post content everyday to my platforms because I truly love what I do. I love to share what I’m wearing, how I’m doing my makeup and where I am traveling. But to create that beautiful content, I have many expenses like photography, videography, new cameras, lenses, lighting … the list goes on. To support these costs, I take on #sponsored content that I am very proud to work with. When I started my blog I could have only dreamed to work with the incredible brands that I have loved for years. It is an honor for me to be able to partner with brands that I love and be able to share them with you – because that is truly a passion of mine in life, to share things that I love! I am consistently and constantly creating non-sponsored content for you that has the same production value and costs so that everything maintains the same quality.
I hope this gives you a little insight to the blogger world and how we survive, and next time you see #sponsored – you’ll know a little more about it!
