It’s oh so tempting to crawl under the covers after a long night. I can admit to breaking the number one rule of skincare every now and then, it can’t be that big of a deal, right? Wrong.
I looked up exactly what happens to your skin when you sleep in makeup and the info was enough to gross me out and definitely, DEFINITELY help crush my bad habits.
Your skin renews itself at night and as you can expect, makeup pretty much ruins the process. If our foundation has been on all day, so has the dust and pollutants it attracts. Dirt and bacteria gets trapped in pores, then comes, you guessed it— breakouts.
Lightweight makeup can still cause damage to your skin. Even if your makeup routine consists of only a tinted moisturizer or BB cream and a little mascara, it still needs to be washed away before bed. No exceptions.
THE NOT SO OBVIOUS
Left on mascara causes eyelash breaking, shedding, and styes. Sleeping in foundation can also interrupt skin’s processes for building collagen, causing wrinkles, dullness, and premature aging. Oh and if that wasn’t enough, if you’re not cleansing your skin, dead skin cells are just sitting on the surface, clogging your pores, causing inflammation, and more breakouts.
GROSSED OUT YET?
Keep this info in mind the next time you’re tempted to crawl under the covers with a full face of makeup. Makeup wipes alone won’t do the job. At minimum you’ll need to cleanse and moisturize for your healthiest skin.
