For those of you who’ve been following me a little bit longer, you know how much I believe in self-care. It’s so important to invest the time and energy to take time for you and your needs. As much as I love to keep a busy schedule and work on different projects, I know when it’s right to take time off—even if that means an hour or a single day. These are a few things I like to do when I check out and indulge in some self-care.
I obviously have to live so much of my life online, and even I get overwhelmed sometimes. When I take a break, I like to turn off my phone and stop checking emails and social feeds for a little bit of time. Being on my phone or computer all the time can get mentally draining, so this allows me to temporarily be off the radar and not feel like I’m working 24/7.
As cliché as it may sound, nearly every successful person swears by meditation. Even a quick 10-minute session of simple breathing exercises can help turn your whole day around. When I’m feeling stressed from work, traveling, or anything for that matter, I think that a guided meditation helps me. You can find a ton of different sessions on YouTube or various apps such as Headspace if you’re unsure where to start.
While self-care shouldn’t mainly focus on the beauty department, it doesn’t hurt to pamper yourself a bit while you’re at it. I like to indulge in a nice long bath with some candles set up, which I don’t get to do often. I love treating my skin to the Summer Fridays Jet Lag Mask when I feel like it needs an extra “pick me up” moment. A scalp massage is also super relaxing for releasing any tension in the head right before bedtime.
You’ve likely seen a ton of buzz surrounding essential oils and their healing properties lately, and it’s worth the hype. Whether you apply the oils onto your wrists or temples or use an oil diffuser to release the scents, they’re so beneficial. I love eucalyptus oil for de-stressing and lavender oil for right before I’m trying to fall asleep. Essential oils really allow you to unwind and enjoy the healing properties of each unique scent.
