Another New York Fashion Week is here again. I can’t believe this is my fifth fashion week attending since my very first one in February 2014. Each season has gotten better and better and I can’t wait for you to follow me on this week! I’ll update this post daily with shows I’m attending, what I wore and any other fun happenings in New York. You can also follow along daily on snapchat: marianna_hewitt
I arrived to New York late this afternoon and checked in The Roxy Hotel, you may remember I stayed here my last trip. I spent National Pizza Day with Jascmeen who helps here at Life With Me with editorial content and project management and Claire who is with me on this trip to photograph the whole week. We had vodka pizza, brussels sprouts, rice balls and a bottle of Pinot Nero at Rubirosa. YUM. Then Mei, who you may remember did my marble nails for the Cosmopolitan shoot, came by my room for a much needed manicure. I wanted a neutral color so I picked a gel polish by Harmony called “primrose and proper”
My first full day … and it is definitely a packed one. I started off at the AIROPTIX brunch at Salinas. I went with a pale pink and white outfit. The top and vest are both from Mistress Rocks with Keepsake lace pants. I kept the blush theme going with Jimmy Choo shoes and a Balenciaga papier bag. After the morning brunch, I took some outfit photos and caught up on emails before the night’s events.
That evening, I attended the amfAR New York Gala and wrote a full blog post about the experience that you can read here, as well as all the outfit details of this dress / cape situation.
This morning I slept right through my alarm and missed the BCBG show, which I always look forward to attending as it usually is the first show of the season. Yesterday was incredibly long and my body just said nope, you’re going to sleep!
When I finally woke up, I went outside to a chilly 24 degrees and got to see my good friend Matt who is the most incredible writer and now living in Hawaii. Was instantly jealous of his tan. I had a lack of food and time to eat yesterday, so I made sure to have time for a meal today. Jascmeen, Matt and I ventured out for lunch. We went to by CHLOE, a vegan restaurant in Greenwich Village. If you go, try the avocado toast, sweet potato fries and the giant cookie.
I needed a jolt of caffeine after before heading to my friend Marissa Webb’s show. We stopped at Chalait for a matcha green tea latte then I made my way back to The Roxy to change. I kept on my leather pants and Jimmy Choo boots, but changed into an American Apparel long sleeve tee, a Marissa Webb blush trench and my favorite Iro leather jacket.
The show was everything I want in my closet this fall with luxe grey coats, pieces perfect for layering and feminine dresses with ruffles that still felt sexy. Marissa Webb is not only a friend, but one of my favorite designers and without even knowing they are designed by her, I always gravitate towards her pieces when I shop at Intermix.
That evening I went to a dinner with my management and other bloggers in Soho, then stopped by the NYLON Magazine Fashion Week party at the Rose Bar at the Gramercy Park Hotel. After that, we stopped by The Box for the ASAP Rocky x GUESS party, but was at capacity and ended up at the downstairs bar at The Roxy Hotel for a bottle of wine and pigs in a blanket.
We took it easy today and started our Fri-yay with lunch at one of my favorite restaurants, Carbone. If you can get a table I recommend the ceasar salad to start and the spicy vodka rigatoni for a main. I love anything with vodka sauce and it has a good amount of kick. Then we went over to Broadway to hit up Topshop before an afternoon nap. I was wearing my favorite Stuart Weitman highland boots, petite denim from Topshop, a Vince thin sweater, Marissa Webb coat, Westward Leaning sunglasses and a Chanel wallet on chain.
That evening, I went to see Rihanna debut her Fenty x Puma collection and the show was full of basically anyone important, even Anna Wintour was there. I spotted Chris Rock and took a seat behind Wale just before the show began. Rihanna did not disappoint with this collection and although it might not be for everyone, her personal style and influence was very present even down to the styling of the girls. Bella Hadid walked the show and her older sister Gigi closed the show, with a vampy lip and white washed hair.
Following the show, I made my way backstage and was in awe of all the people it took to put on this production. Rihanna did post show interviews with her Mom and Dad who were glowing at how proud they were of their daughter. I met one of my idols, Pat McGrath and she couldn’t have been sweeter.
After the show its the after party … right?! We made our way to Up and Down where they played my favorite 90’s R&B sprinkled in with songs from Rihanna’s new album. Rihanna was there, Gigi Hadid was at the table next to us and on our way out we bumped into Naomi Campbell.
This morning … well day … is pure insanity with back to back shows. It’s 8:21AM and I’m in my room at The Roxy, how beautiful are these chandeliers and the ceiling?! I’m getting ready to start my day with a blowout in my room. Then I’ll be heading to Lacoste, Dion Lee, Rebecca Minkoff, Banana Republic then Moncler. WHEW!
It was a wind tunnel walking from my hotel to the Lacoste show and it was starting to snow! By the time we arrived, my eyes were watering it looked like I was crying and my mascara was running down my face. But it was so great to be at the show and run into so many fashion friends, Michelle Lee, Editor in Chief of Allure, Aimee Song and Olivia Lopez. I wore a Nasty Gal dress, Theory shearling coat, Stuart Weitzman boots and Balenciaga bag that I’ve been carrying all week.
Then I scurried over to Dion Lee at MADE fashion week. I love his designs and this season didn’t disappoint. I sat across from Anna Tran from Revolve Clothing and we gushed over the feminine designs that were styled with boots and minimal jewelry to give the looks an edgy feel.
Finally I went to Rebecca Minkoff for their first show thats available to purchase right now. I sat next to Chriselle Lim and Aimee and Dani Song. Across from me were Eva Chen and Olivia Palermo! My favorite look was a blush colored ruffled dress. You can watch the show on her site and shop each look, you can even see me on the left with the tan flat boots taking videos for my NYFW vlog!
After my three morning shows, I went to lunch at Bar Pitti and had the penne with vodka sauce (not on the menu but my favorite thing they have there) then had a coffee at Ground Support in Soho before going to the Banana Republic presentation.
I really love presentations and they are so different from shows. At fashion shows, you get the buzz of the room and the music and the models. But at presentations, you get to catch up with friends around the room and feel less rushed to make it on time. You get to take a look at each piece up close and personal and get close enough to take a detailed photo. For these reasons, I prefer presentations over shows.
Happy Valentine’s Day! Today I did an instagram takeover for Bluefly and curated 150 of my favorite discounted picks on the site. You can head over there to see what I chose and three looks below that I transitioned from day to night keeping some of the same pieces in each look. PS, those Jimmy Choo boots are so comfy. I also went to brunch at Soho House that day, their Sunday brunch is my favorite in Los Angeles and New York.
I also got the best surprise from my Valentine delivered to my room at The Roxy Hotel. But if you don’t have one, its ok! Read my post about loving yourself.
The days are flying by! Today is a little warmer and by a little, I mean its in the 20’s so it feels somewhat bearable to go outside for a few minutes before feeling like your ears might fall off. Today’s outfit was a striped coat from ASOS and Jimmy Choo’s new it bag, the lockett petite.
Today the snow was COMING DOWN! It’s the first time it snowed all week and I actually enjoyed it, but one day of this weather will be more than enough for me. A few blogger friends are staying at the same hotel as I am and I saw one of my LA friends Tania Sarin out front before today’s shows. I’m wearing an Iro leather jacket and pants from Nasty Gal.
FEBRUARY 16, 17, 18
I actually have no idea what happened these last few days because my mind COMPLETELY BLANKED and I didn’t blog or take any extra video for my vlog!
I finished my NYFW out with a few more shows, the weather finally warmed up and then I had to pack up all my stuff and head to Miami the morning of the 18th. So I guess this concludes my New York Fashion week! Thank you to The Roxy Hotel for being my home for this trip and can’t wait to come back again!
