One of the most common skin concerns is dealing with an uneven skin texture. Between environmental aggressors, lack of hydration, and many other factors, it’s likely that many of us don’t always have the smoothest skin. However, that doesn’t mean that baby soft skin isn’t a possibility. With the right routine and products, you can effectively get your skin texture back to a more even and much smoother state faster than you think.
Exfoliation should be part of everyone’s skincare routine. The process helps eliminate any dead skin cells and should be done at least once a week. There are several different ways you can exfoliate, but my current favorite is with the Summer Fridays Overtime Mask which uses pumpkin and apricot seed powder to polish away dead skin.
Try an At-Home Peel
To go even a little deeper, try a peel. Those of you who have tried peels already know they can work wonders and provide a more luminous skin finish. The frequency in which you should do peels depends on the sensitivity of your skin. Peels can also treat other skin concerns such as acne and hyperpigmentation, but they all target texture directly.
Moisturize, Moisturize, Moisturize
You can’t get smoother skin if you don’t moisturize. If you’ve noticed any dry flakes or patches as of late, then it might be time to swap out your current moisturizer for something a bit richer. A heavier moisturizer can help keep any dryness away and make your skin appear smoother.
Don’t Forget SPF
As I mentioned above, environmental aggressors and take a huge toll on our skin. One of the biggest culprits is excess sun exposure, and UV rays can be very damaging to the skin. As a reminder, you should be wearing SPF all year round, and that includes the days you don’t see the sun shining.
If you’re dehydrated internally, it will show on your face. One of the easiest ways to care for your skin is by staying hydrated and drinking as much water as possible. Your skin will appear a lot less dull and more youthful if you drink the recommended 8-12 glasses per day.
Bonus: When all else fails, visit a skincare professional
I try to visit my esthetician Shani Darden frequently to keep my skin in the best shape possible. Her Texture Reform serum targets uneven texture directly and is perfect for anyone who isn’t too familiar with retinol yet. Paying a visit to a skincare professional can help determine what’s causing your uneven texture and if there are any specific products, you should be using.
