Just like our skin, our scalp goes through some changes during the winter months. We can experience everything from dryness to flakiness, which is both convenient and embarrassing, to say the least. Rather than dealing with discomfort and flakes throughout the entire winter season, there are now plenty of products that cater to scalp-specific concerns. Since these issues are inevitable and we’ll all likely have to deal with them someday, I’m sharing some of my the ways I like to treat (and save) my scalp that I’ve learned while traveling to colder climates.
Scalp scrubs aren’t for everyone, but I personally enjoy the invigorating feeling I get after using them. A scalp scrub can help get rid of the flakes and buildup often found resting on our scalps throughout the winter, leaving us with less to worry about. Using a scrub can also help prevent your scalp from flaking in the future.
Just like our skin, it’s important to maintain our scalp’s moisture levels. I like to deep condition my hair with a mask regularly to prevent my scalp from getting dry. I like to look out for natural ingredients such as coconut oil or shea butter in my hair masks for extra hydration. Incorporating a hair mask into your haircare routine regularly is also another step to take to prevent flakiness.
Shampoos, Conditioners & Treatments
Many brands have made it easier to treat these concerns with shampoos and conditioners as well, including drugstore options as well. Depending on whether you’d like to treat dryness more than dandruff or vice versa, you can easily find shampoo and conditioner options for both of these issues. There are also plenty of treatments including rinses, elixirs, and oils that can be applied directly onto your scalp to help it even further.
