Thanks so much @tinimenen for sending me this question about what to wear as a guest of a wedding. I am getting ready to go to my cousins wedding in a few weeks – my second this season! As much as I love weddings, what I hate is buying something I will never wear again. I shared a post about this last year on my blog, so I’ll reshare my tips and put some picks below! Just remember when buying it ask yourself – would I wear this again? And if its a formal wedding and you are buying a long dress, you can always use a service like Rent The Runway or buy a dress that can be tailored short after the wedding to get the max CPW (cost per wear!)
BUY SOMETHING YOU WOULD ACTUALLY WEAR
I know this sounds like silly advice, but why buy something you would only wear one time even if you are a very important wedding guest? Reformation has really cute dresses in short or maxi length that are perfect for weddings that you can actually wear again in real life. (You can find a few here, here, here and here)
Something borrowed doesn’t just apply to the bride, it goes for the guests too! Services like Rent The Runway have an amazing selection of gowns for formal weddings or short dresses as well. They even offer to send multiple sizes just incase you aren’t sure so you can make sure you have something that fits. I have used this service before and love the ease of their rental process.
SET A BUDGET
Be real with how much you want to spend and stick to it. Factor in that you may be paying to get your hair and makeup done or buying shoes or jewelry. Focus on not going over your budget so you don’t end up with buyer’s remorse.
CHOOSE A COLOR PALETTE
Unless there’s a dress code that includes a color scheme, stick to colors that you love and are more likely to rewear. If you’re into neutrals like I am, take this opportunity to buy a new dress in your favorite color that will fit in nicely with your existing wardrobe. Try to avoid any over-the-top prints or details that would make the dress difficult to style in the future.
FIND A SIMPLE SILHOUETTE
When it comes to shopping for a wedding I like to keep it simple. I look for feminine lace dresses, minimal maxi dresses, slip dresses, or matching sets that I can rewear with a moto jacket or ankle boots on a more casual occasion.
No matter what, never spend on something that doesn’t make you feel amazing. Above were a few styles I picked out for day and night weddings. Click through the slideshows, there’s something for everyone for every budget ?
