In this week’s Ask Marianna, this is a common question I get asked about a lot. Photography!
Learning what works best for me, my social media, youtube and blog has been a learning curve over the last few years of being a full time blogger. I’ve always had a passion for taking photos, and I would like to think a good eye for finding a great shot. But finding what worked for me, what my readers responded to and a distinct point of view of me as a brand took some time to fine tune.
BLOG PHOTOGRAPHY
For my blog I use a combination of things. I work with some professional photographers who take my pictures especially for branded sponsored collaborations. So when it comes to what cameras they use and how they edit, I have no idea. But for the photos I take of things or when I travel, a use a Canon 5D Mark III and a 50mm 1.2 lens. It took me a long time to save up for this equipment and it is expensive, but I knew it was an investment in my career. The photos above were taken using a Canon 5D Mark III with a 50mm 1.2 lens.
I love my camera and lens but before I was using this set of gear, I was shooting my pictures and youtube videos with a Canon rebel t5i and a 50mm 1.8 lens. This was a great camera to start with and I took incredible photos and video with it as well. The photo above was taken using a Canon rebel t5i with a 50mm 1.8 lens.
iPHONE PHOTOGRAPHY
I use my iPhone for so many pictures and mostly everything I post to instagram has been taken on my cell phone. With the right lighting, editing and filters you can make an iPhone picture look really professional. I’ve gotten so many requests lately about how I’ve changed my photography or apps for instagram, and its the exact same process and filters as my instagram editing video its just how I’ve been taken the photos that makes them turn out different. The photos above were all taken using an iPhone.
My favorite apps to use are Facetune, VSCO and Snapseed. My favorite VSCO filters are HB1, HB2, S2 and A6. You can watch the entire process of how I edit photos below.

all of your pictures are absolutely stunning! what kind of camera do you use to take your pictures? and as a fellow blogger, sometimes it is quite a challenge to come up with creative, original content others have not done already. where do you get your ideas for blog posts people will actually want to read that hasn’t been seen anywhere else?
